Lessons From a House on Fire—From Smallpox to Polio,2023.01.24,
https://doi.org/10.1093/infdis/jiad017 .
Recent increases in infectious disease outbreaks, such as polio and measles, especially among poorly vaccinated populations, have underscored the risks of resurgence of diseases once thought eliminated in the United States and elsewhere. Engaging governments, community leaders, and the public will be critical to continuing the advancement of global health through elimination of vaccine preventable diseases.

Methods of assessing value for money of UK-based early childhood public health interventions: a systematic literature review, 2022.12.19,
https://doi.org/10.1093/bmb/ldac035 .
Economic evaluation has an important role to play in the demonstration of value for money of early childhood public health interventions; however, concerns have been raised regarding their consistent application and relevance to commissioners. This systematic review of the literature therefore aims to collate the breadth of the existing economic evaluation evidence of these interventions and to identify the approaches adopted in the assessment of value.

Among individuals presenting for monkeypox vaccination, transition from an opt-out protocol for sexually transmitted infection (STI) and HIV risk assessment and testing to an opt-in protocol was associated with a substantial increase in missed opportunities for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis and STI testing at an ambulatory sexual health clinic.

Utility of a Viral Vesicular Panel Multiplex Polymerase Chain Reaction Assay for the Diagnosis of Monkeypox, Herpes Simplex, and Varicella Zoster Viruses, 2023.03.14,
https://doi.org/10.1093/ofid/ofad140 .
Monkeypox represents a diagnostic challenge due to varied clinical presentations and multiple mimics. A commercially available multiplex polymerase chain reaction panel accurately detects mpox virus as well as common mimics (herpes simplex virus, varicella zoster virus) in clinical specimens and could be used in routine clinical, surveillance, and outbreak settings.
